Spring Arrives in the Douro

April in the Douro is a time of rebirth. The vines awaken from their winter rest and the first green shoots appear on the schist terraces, heralding a new cycle of life. At Casa de Santa Eufémia, spring 2022 brought with it a special energy. After two difficult years for the sector, we felt this would be a year of change. The favourable weather conditions — a winter with good rainfall followed by mild temperatures — promised a quality viticultural campaign. It is at this time that work in the vineyards intensifies: formation pruning, maintenance of the schist walls and soil preparation are fundamental to ensuring a good harvest. Our team, led by winemaker Lúcia Carvalho, closely monitors each parcel. Spring in the Douro is the promise of what is to come. And in 2022, that promise would be fulfilled with an exceptional harvest.
